Celebrating the 59th Independence Day of the State of Israel E-mail

The Consul General of Israel, Dan Ben-Eliezer, hosted the 59th Independence Day Reception on 25 April 2007 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The event was sponsored by many of Israel’s leading companies in Asia.

The guest of honour was the Honorable Wong Yan Lung, Secretary of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, who addressed the evenings attendees which included representatives from the governments of the Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR, including the Honorable Lu Xin-hua, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong SAR, eminent Rabbis and leaders of the Hong Kong Jewish community.

Conversion in Asia is on the cutting edge of technology E-mail

The United Jewish Congregation (UJC) of Hong Kong has just taken conversion classes to a new frontier by initiating a conversion by skype option. While there are already various on-line conversion classed offered, this is perhaps the first by skype.

The group class meets on Monday evenings, Hong Kong time, and consists of eight participants from Hong Kong and Shenzhen, two from Shanghai, and one in London. Two additional participants, based in the Philippines are likely to join as well. Local participants gather in the home of Rabbi David Kopstein.

Israelis participate in taekwondo tournament E-mail

An Israeli delegation of eight members, including two coaches, participated in an international taekwondo tournament held in Chuncheon,  Korea on 4-5 March.

This latest World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) tournament included about 200 athletes from twentycountries.

Taiwanese Pro-Hitler group E-mail

A Taiwanese student group that sympathizes with Hitler is attempting to gain Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) status.

The National Socialist Association (NSA) denies being neo-Nazi or racist but reveres Adolf Hitler for his strong leadership and nationalistic agenda.
