Hong Kong welcomes the new Chief Rabbi of the UK and Commonwealth E-mail

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and Mrs. Valerie Mirvis were warmly welcomed in Hong Kong over the weekend of 31 October, which was their visit to the territory.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis was installed as the new Chief Rabbi last year at St Johns Wood Synagogue. The former Chief Rabbi of Ireland succeeded Lord Jonathan Sacks, who held the post since 1991. Rabbi Mirvis became the 11th Chief Rabbi. The son and grandson of rabbis, he was born in Johannesburg, South Africa.

While in Hong Kong, Chief Rabbi Mirvis and Rebbetzin visited Carmel Elementary School and Elsa High to greet students and teachers. They were welcomed by Rachel Friedmann, Principal of Carmel School and Mira Hasofer, Head of Carmel Elementary.

In honour of the Chief Rabbi’s visit a special performance by students of Carmel School choir sung popular songs in both English and Hebrew.
