On Friday night 13 June, just hours after the Tel Aviv Pride Parade, 2,226 locals and tourists were officially inscribed in the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest Shabbat dinner.

Notable diners included; Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Rav Yisrael Meir Lau, Professor Alan Dershowitz, Ambassador Michael Oren, Israeli basketball legend Tal Brody, Canadian MP Irwin Cotler and Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo Ron Huldai.

The event, which took place at Hangar 11 at Tel Aviv port, was organised by White City Shabbat, a volunteer-run non-profit organisation that acts as the portal for Jewish life in Tel Aviv.

At 11pm, a jubilant crowd cheered on as the adjudicator from GWR Pravin Patel, announced the final result.

Patel, was especially flown in from London for the occasion and had to ensure that a minimum of 1000 diners were in attendance.
