Dialogue with India on strategic issues and the war on terror Print E-mail

The seventh meeting of the joint Israel-India Working Group on the War on Terror, and the fourth meeting on Disarmament and Prevention of Proliferation was recently convened in Jerusalem.

Mr. Vivek Katju, Additional Secretary (International Organisations) in the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Indian delegation to the talks and the Israeli delegation was headed by Mrs. Miriam Ziv, MFA Deputy Director General of the Division for Strategic Affairs.

The two sides reviewed a number of global and regional terror threats including the threats imposed by drug traffi cking, computerised terror and cooperation in international forums. The two sides exchanged opinions on regional and international efforts in the battle against terrorism and also discussed disarmament, weapon control, and prevention of proliferation.

Both nations reiterated their commitment to the prevention of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and included plans for a framework to insure that measures such as national inspection of exports would be utilised to further these goals.

The next round of talks will be held in India.
