Air India looking to y to Israel E-mail

Air India is in the process of inaugurating a new MumbaiTel Aviv route. The announcement is expected to coincide with an official visit to Israel by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that has been slated to happen sometime in the next few months, according to the Times of India.

The flight will take a circuitous route to avoid ying over countries that do not have relations with Israel, and will therefore take seven rather than the usual ve hours for a direct route.

“Saudi Arabia does not allow planes to y to Israel from over its airspace. So Air India is drawing up a circuitous route to avoid over ying countries that have such restrictions for Israelbound planes,” a source told the Times of India.

El Al, Israel’s national airline, currently operates a route between Tel Aviv and Mumbai, though its jets are barred from ying over several Islamic and Gulf countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
